Some of the Session highlights:

The special interest was aroused by the topic on geographical names as cultural heritage. Geographical names are significant not only for contemporary use, but they should also be regarded as a significant part of the historical cultural heritage. They embody national and cultural identity, and they are essential for the identity of nations, groups and individuals.

Montenegro was activated in the East Central and South-East Europe Division of the UNGEGN as a new Division country.

To make ECSEED easily recognizable, the main data about ECSEE Division are collected in the document East Central and South-East Europe Division overview. It was prepared by the Division Chairman and edited by the Division experts. The ECSEE Division overview document should be continuously updated and corrected accordiong to the changes of the data delivered by Division countries. The latest edition can be found on the Division website.

New ECSEED website was introduced. It presents Division, and it should be linked with relevant national geographical names websites. The website is serves as a central information point of the Division for the benefit of all ECSEED countries.

In order to systematize ECSEE Division documentation, the Division Chairman has introduced:

  • unified identification of the ECSEE Division documents,
  • unified ECSEE Division list of documents that should contain list of all Division documents,
  • unified first page of the ECSEE Division documents that contains all relevant data and makes document easily recognizable.

At the Session there were positive impulses given to the development of the Division and standardization of geographical names.
